About Your Trainer
Hi, I’m Lucia Emma Elliott, born in London and made the move to sunny Sussex in 2009. I am a fully insured, DBS checked, experienced & qualified dog trainer. I have owned and fostered many breeds, and now own a wonderful pack of spaniels.
I have studied dog training for many years, and I successfully completed my IMDT Dog Trainer Course in 2022, I gained my Canine Communication Diploma, and went on to achieve my Pet Psychology Diploma which gave me a deeper insight into the science behind good dog training practices and the vast range of benefits it provides for our dogs.
As part of being a responsible trainer, I believe we can never know enough, I have more IMDT training courses planned for the year ahead. This enables me to be equipped with the very latest in dog training knowledge.
I am a trained Canine First Responder, I refresh this every 3 years for the safety of any dogs in my vicinity. Prior to my dream of becoming a dog trainer, I worked in the equine industry. I ran various equestrian yards, backed youngsters and competed my home produced horses all over the UK. I have a National Diploma in Equine Management, R&RS, BHS stages and I am PTT trained. I am trained to teach and have been teaching for over 15 years.
I have a clear passion for dogs, but more so, I have a passion for seeing the connections form between dog and owner, for building solid foundations of trust and respect and watching the bond flourish.
Each and every dog I have worked with has responded confidently and joyfully to training which is fun, clear, and reward based. Dogs ordinarily love to please, they enjoy engaging in activities with their owner, and they get a rush of happy hormones when they see they’ve pleased you and got it right. The days of ‘Alpha theory’ and ‘Submission’ are thankfully behind us, and we can move forward in Modern dog training techniques where owner and dog are happy, harmonious partners
.I pride myself in training dogs as the species they are, and treating them with respect, this is not a training school for ‘fur babies’, I do not follow the trend of demoralising these wonderful animals in this manner, in my opinion, the act of ‘babying’ dogs is one of the lead causes of so many issues we see in the training world. We should only ever deliver clear and fair cues to our pets.
I have trained my own dogs to Post Gold KC Good Citizen level, I have competed in agility, worked my dog with a performance club and have experience in trick training. I have also worked my spaniels in the shooting field, both flushing game and picking up. The foundations to all of these disciplines, stems from that crucial focus and trust base that I work so much on with my clients.
